At AMEL Institute, the year has gotten off to an incredible start with increased support and engagement!
Kicking off the first 2026 edition (Spring) of the Institute's regional training program, more than 2300 young changemakers from more than 50 countries in the Middle East & Africa (MEA) applied for the program! Launched in the last days of March and continuing through the end of May, the program will fill critical knowledge and skill gaps among 300+ young MEA leaders.
Through interactive synchronous and asynchronous online training, they are learning about inclusive, safe and effective changemaking, with an emphasis on dignity and rights for all, building allyship across differences, and genocide prevention, including a central case study about the Holocaust. The training begins with a module on activist safety and self-care, including mental health and digital security basics, before continuing on to topic including human rights and democracy. Following the central genocide prevention module, the training concludes with nonviolent movements, conflict transformation, peacebuilding and communication tools and techniques.
AMEL Institute’s original curriculum features seasoned activists, such as AMEL President Mohamed Abubakr, as well as top international experts, such as Dr. Larry Diamond of Stanford University. Peer-to-peer learning and networking through small and large group discussions further enrich the unique learning journey.
This year, we are honored to have support from the Claims Conference, which is allowing us to further scale up the AMEL Institute to reach more young MEA changemakers, including adding a first-ever Fall edition. This will enable us to train 1000 young changemakers by the end of the three 2026 editions (Spring, Summer and Fall).
